The first step in taking back control of my life

The first step in taking back control of my life

As an full-time employee, I didn't create a lot of content on LinkedIn or anywhere else for that matter.

I was scared.

“What if someone at the company sees what I’m doing and tells me to stop...

What if something worse happens.

Last July, I lost my father after a brief but devastating battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

And it changed everything for me.

When I was younger, my old man used to say “Scot, you’ll never get rich working for someone else.”

I used to think he was talking purely about money.

After he was gone, I realized what he meant was something much greater.

He was talking about fulfillment, purpose and legacy.

2 weeks before my father passed,  I discovered Gary Vaynerchuk.

His content was entertaining but I had a good paying job

Why would I give it all up to follow my passion?

That would be crazy.

As I sat in the hospital keeping my mom company, I started to think a lot about my purpose and legacy.

Things that seemed so important like the bullshit meetings, insane client requests or impossible deadlines all of the sudden didn't matter.

Yes I had a great job, but it wasn’t my calling.

And I was miserable.

I took my first step to changing that on Friday

I left a good paying job to triple down on my passion.

It was my first step to being a better husband.

It was my first step to becoming an #epicdad

Yesterday was the first Sunday that I can remember where my stomach wasn’t in knots

So I know that I’m on the right path.

I’d be lying if I told you I wasn’t scared

But the fear of not taking action and of regret is much, much greater.

Wow... what an honest share. It is so true though. We get scared of the situations that are most important... we need to listen to that internal compass and discern well. Good stuff
