First step to holding someone accountable
When it comes to leadership, the first step of holding someone accountable is probably the most critical yet it is the most overlooked.
It is making sure that they understand what the key priority is on the team. What is most important and making that crystal clear so they can actually repeat that back to you.
I can't tell you how many times I have a conversation with the leader and it comes down to accountability and then I ask them “Well, do they know what their highest priority happens to be? And what it is for the team and the organization” and often the answer is “I don't know”.
So, take that question mark out of the equation today and make sure that they understand what that is. And everybody on your team understands what that top priority is because that's going to make holding them accountable down the line much much easier.
