The first skill any network marketer MUST master.

The first skill any network marketer MUST master.

There are a lot of skills that a successful network marketer will need to master such as consistency, prospecting, marketing, and presenting. But even if one masters all of these skills, you’ll still be spinning your wheels if you don’t know storytelling.

In her book “Story Your Way to Success” by Kindra Hall, she lays out the four pieces of a great story. As I read it, I thought back to all the people I’ve encountered in Network Marketing. The ones that really stood out to me are the storytellers. The reason why I stay in the industry are the stories.

It doesn’t have to be a grand story. It can be something as simple as my friend JT who didn’t really think the pictures I was sharing could be real. “It wasn’t until one day I was taking a shower and looked down to see that annoying bump of skin on my waist had vanished that I became a believer.” Not everyone will be able to relate to a bulging belly story, but those who do will want to know what JT used to erase hers in 30 days.

I highly recommend getting Kindra Hall’s book. After reading her book and taking her advice here’s what I put together about my own story in this industry.

My Story

“I’ll never forget how happy my kids were when I took them on our first family weekend getaway. I always wanted to give my kids the world but standing in charity lines for holidays because I couldn’t afford toys left me feeling like going on vacations was just a pipe-dream.

The day I handed them a stack of brochures to pick a place to go as a family, they beamed with excited and quickly ruffled through the papers. We ended up going to a resort with a waterpark. Watching them play and laugh in the waterpark was such a blessing to me and I felt so accomplished.

Since that time, we’ve donated back to charities by giving toys, diapers, clothes, and cash. We’ve gone on several other vacations. (Five this year alone as of my writing this!)

I don’t know your story, If you’ve ever felt ashamed of your financial situation. What I do know is that with my company being able to give back and take my family on the vacation THEY got to pick has allowed me to dream bigger. Whether or not you need a weekend getaway, it can be yours.”

Your Story

What will your story say? It doesn’t have to look anything like mine. We all start out in different places. One thing that Kindra points out, as you grow, you’ll need more than just your own story. You’ll want to master several stories including customers, team members, new members, and leaders.
