First Siemens wide Hackathon Days 2017 – 5 Locations; 800 Ideas; 1,700 Participants

“Don’t be afraid to expand yourself, to step out of your comfort zone. That’s where the joy and the adventure lie” - Herbie Hancock
Yesterday and today I got an impression of the enormous potential that can be unleashed by working across boundaries in a (virtual) room full of creative minds!
On January 26 and 27 the Siemens Hackathon Days 2017 were hosted by the Siemens internal startup #iDea. They have generated more than 800 ideas and will focus on developing 300 of them to prototype status. This is an impressive number and shows how much creative potential lies in our employees - ownership culture at its best! The goal is to find innovative solutions for real questions and turn them into business value. Combined we have 700 participants directly at the locations and 1,000 participating virtually. This makes our hackathon one of the first if not THE first hybrid enterprise hackathon worldwide!
The ideas that are being developed will be rated online by the Siemens employees in the following two weeks. The five top ranked ideas will be identified by February 13. In the following month the top teams will be facing a jury of Siemens CEOs to find sponsors to realize their projects.
The time and work will also be awarded with a prize money for every member of the winning teams.
We are all very excited to see the results!
