Did you know that Hungary's first modern sewage system was established in Budapest on Soroksári Road? The history of the Central Pumping Station of the Budapest Sewage Works is not only a technical breakthrough but also one of the key milestones in the city's infrastructural development.


?? The Beginning:

The pumping station was built between 1889 and 1893, and its primary task was to pump wastewater and stormwater from the area between Hungária Boulevard and the Danube River into the Danube. This unique project was realized in one of Hungary's most beautiful utility parks, which is still operational today. At the time, the pumping system represented the pinnacle of 19th-century engineering, making it one of the greatest water management innovations of its era.


?? Construction of the Main Sewer Channels:

The construction of the main sewer channels connected to the central pumping station continued until 1907, creating a network over 25 km in length, which collected and managed the wastewater from the southern part of Budapest. This infrastructure enabled further urban growth and industrialization while significantly improving public health in the city.
