The First Self Defense Training Workshop

 Why is it so important to learn the basic self-defense techniques today? Women aren’t safe even within the ambit of their own homes. It’s time for women to be their own protector. I conducted a self defense training workshop in October 2018. The main motive of this workshop was to teach basic self defense techniques to women domestic workers and their daughters. This was my first initiative to spread awareness on the subject of self defense. In today’s scenario, no place is safe for girls and women. Once on my way back home from office, I heard two women domestic workers talking about how unsafe their home locality is. They cannot even think of leaving their daughters alone at home and asked their daughters to wait in the community park after school until these women finished their work. It was then that I decided to conduct a free self defense training workshop for these domestic workers.

Rekha, a domestic worker said, "This is the first self defense workshop that I have attended. It was a great learning experience. I wish to attend more classes in future."

 In this fast paced and ambitious world, not many people volunteer to help. Anuj was the only trainer who agreed to help. The class wouldn’t have been possible without the help of trainer Anuj who agreed to conduct a class free of cost on a Sunday. In total, 10 people attended this class. Along with domestic workers daughters, a few other youngsters also joined the class.

Vanshika, a 1st year Engineering student said, "In today's scenario, it's very important to learn self defense. You don't know what happens when. Hence it's basic to learn self defense."

The class got a great feedback from the participants, and we hope to conduct more such classes in future.
