The first rule of book club is: if this is your first book club, you have to speak

I think I’ve saved you a slice of time.

You see, I was going to write a depressingly long post about AI and deepfakes and how anyone with a laptop can bring dead politicians and rock stars back to life; musical political hedonists to manipulate your thoughts, to manipulate elections, to mutate the truth.

But then I remembered the reality of February. ?

You don’t want to read about the end of the world: it’s Monday, you have jobs and cats and sons and daughters who need to go to school. There are bills to be paid, meetings with the boss, (why so many meetings?) food to be bought, memories to remember and secrets to forget.

Besides, you’re reading Thinking On Paper because you’re well aware of algorithmic revolutions. Who needs reminding AI is going to take all our jobs, tear any meaning from our lives and leave us all empty, bored shells shuffling around the planet looking for sustenance and entertainment?

Not me. So instead, I’ll keep it short and beautiful… We’re starting Book 3 of Book Club!
