First patient navigation app launches in Ghana, connecting patients to innovative cancer care

Together with the Embrace Society, we are thrilled to announce the launch of Ghana's first patient navigation app, the RedPath App. This app is part of a wider patient navigation programme which aims to enhance the efficacy and effectiveness of breast cancer treatment in the country. The initiative aligns with the WHO’s Global Breast Cancer Initiative Framework which is crucial in improving breast cancer outcomes in Ghana.? In the 6-month pre-launch pilot, there was a remarkable increase in the number of patients diagnosed and treated with breast cancer within 60 days of their initial presentation, along with a significant increase in the number of existing breast cancer patients completing their treatment. Ghana represents the African launch of RedPath. The learnings will be used to support the programme to scale to countries throughout the continent in 2024.?

Since the inception of the RedPath App and the Patient Navigation Program six months ago, over 1000 breast cancer patients have been navigated by 20 navigators across 15 public institutions. The introduction of RedPath streamlines patient navigation and facilitates early diagnosis and treatment. The RedPath App is as a result of collaborative efforts by Roche Ghana and Embrace Society, a Breast Cancer NGO founded by a survivor, @Naana Akyia (Isabella) Asante. The app streamlines navigation data management, eases referral of patients within the network of health facilities and provides seamless data analysis to improve breast cancer strategies.

The ultimate goal is to have the breast cancer patient navigation program upscaled across the nation by 2025, with the goal to improve survival rates and reduce breast cancer mortality rates in the country.

Roche sends our thanks to the patient and patient navigators, the Embrace Society, the public institutions, and the colleagues who have made this initiative a reality.?
