High Stakes ...High Standards

Rich Paul recently spoke at the Black Student Athlete Summit about how he holds himself to a high standard despite the toxic shade he gets from other agent in the business. It was great to see Rich talk about why it's important to not stoop to the level of your opponents because that's when you drop the level of your greatness. Eagles don't fly at the same level as pigeons despite what may come your way, if you want to be an individual that continues to excel. You have to hold yourself to a high standards and understand that with high standards come high stakes.

TTS: Networking

1 Tip: The fortune is in the follow up. Try to respond within a 48 hour window while you are top of mind after meeting with someone in person and provide context in your email.

1 Tool: Airtable is a great CRM system that can help keep you track of people you've met while allowing you to organize based on different sectors you implement.

1 Strategy: When struggling to muster up conversation, ask about their family. You can find out a lot about a person when you ask about their family. Chris Paul gave this gem when asked what he does to figure out the folks he wants to work with.

Teacher Tip

PS... Since this is the first official newsletter, I want to give some context.

For folks that may not know me, I'm Amobi Okugo, first generation Nigerian American from California. Former professional soccer player turned Athlete Entrepreneur + Creator. I don't believe in the quote jack of all trades master of none because the full quote is, " jack of all trades, master of none but oftentimes better than a master of one." If you know me, I'm a multi hyphenate and like to keep my hands full but I'm working on getting better at allocating tasks and priority management and looking to share my thoughts/learnings via this newsletter.

This newsletter will be on a weekly basis exclusively catered for LinkedIn but will be sharing our general newsletter in the future...
