First Look at Responder Characteristics of RWD/RWE Survey

Many of you have sacrificed the five minutes it takes to fill out the anonymous survey on pain points associated with identifying, evaluating, and analyzing real-world data (RWD) sources—and I THANK YOU!

I’ll keep the survey open at least until the ISPOR 2024 meeting in early May, but it’s worth taking a look at the professional affiliation breakdown of who’s responded so far to see which constituencies might need greater representation:

Does this breakdown accurately represent the broader population of RWD researchers, or is it currently overweighted with HEOR consultancies and life science companies, and correspondingly underweighted with RWD suppliers and technology platform providers? Hard to say, but what I do know is the following:

• The HEOR consultancies and CROs have a long history of collaborating with life science companies on real-world research, including analyses of secondary data sources like claims and EHRs. No surprise, then, that we’re seeing many survey respondents with these professional affiliations.
• Many if not most RWD aggregators/suppliers do more than simply license access to their datasets, they have inhouse research teams who perform analyses of their data day in & day out, and people on these teams would be ideal candidates to complete the survey. The relative underrepresentation of this segment is therefore surprising. ?
• The representation of the technology platform providers is undoubtedly understated, as these companies also have inhouse teams who routinely deal with the survey content. ??
