Most of us right after graduation or at some point in time in our life start our professional journey. Like first love, first bike, first car, everyone has the first job and for most of the people, the first job shapes their career. What we are today and where we are today is pure because of what we chose as our first job.
As a fresh grad, we realize neither our potential nor the job-skills that will make us what we dream of.
And barely we know anything about the industry, the trend or the expertise like programming languages, domain, Product Company or Service Company, etc to start with. What we just want is a job so as tell everyone and earn some bugs to live a better life. Sometimes we become victims of the situations or circumstances; it may be our family or our supervisor. Well, few get lucky here when they start their career.
Few who could be really good developers but because of the company they choose or team, they get into or supervisor they report, they play the role of QAs or BAs or project coordination. Even those few who could be good QAs or BAs with their great communication skills are forced to choose developers for the same reason.
It's not that designation matters most but it's about performance and growth one makes when they are in the right role. The question here is how we get into there, a well-performing person?
Few realize their strengths and interests at a later phase of their career and make a career switch. If we fail to do so at the right time, we end up with the same job. And for the entire life, we work for EMIs and loans
The first job is always important. It shapes our career. One should be firm and clear on what to pursue in the career.
Most of the time it is due to pressure from the family and curiosity about a job we end up choosing a wrong career. We keep waiting for the right moment to make a career decision instead of hunting for it.
If you are the one looking to start your first job or planning to re-shape career, then do consider these,
1. Be clear and focus on your career goals
2. Set goal what we want in the next 5 years and choose a career which takes you there.
3. Don't rush. You have a whole life to work. Getting early into a job is not necessarily a sign of success.
4. Allow yourself enough time to crack the jobs you want instead of focusing just getting a job.
5. You may miss some jobs. It's okay you are chasing something big.
6. It is always good to learn and stay updated with the latest trends to excel your skills.
7. Don't turn back and settle for less easily. Take enough time to get into a career you want.
8. Don't look for an immediate career, plan for something big. It's okay to walk far and far to catch flight rather than boarding a train immediately because you want to fly high.
