First Impressions are very important!!
For most of us in life and business we accept that first impressions are most important! The fact is that we have approximately 7 seconds to create a good first impression when we meet someone. As a platform for meeting new business contacts, Linkedin is in the forefront, but many users do not concider how important the first impression they create is.
What is the first thing people see when they look at your profile or post? The answer is as simple as the image on your profile because it is the image on your profile!! That image is the first impression that people get of you. That image will be the basis of all contact, messages and reviews of your profile, yet it is over looked by many.
Some people feel that it is not how I look that is important but what my credentials are. This is very true to a certain degree, but how you look will determine if people look at your credentials, or click past! When I say how you look, I do not mean in the sense of beauty, or fashion or physique, I mean in your appearance, and the quality of the image you present.
Did you know:
LinkedIn users who include a photo receive 21 times more profile views than users without one.
Profiles with a photo are 36 times more likely to receive messages.
Users with professional looking headshots receive 14 times more views.
Get the size right! This is easier than you think. Linkedin requires a minimum size of 400 x 400 pixels. And a resolution of, 72 dpi. The file cannot be greater than 8MB. Most smart phones have editing as part of the package and so you can do this right on your phone! There are also many free online photo editing programs for your computer. My personal favorite and the easiest to use is Irfanview! To resize your image click on Image, Click on Resize, input your desired size, and click apply! Your done! Save it and use it! https://www.irfanview.com/
You do not need a professional photographer, but there are some things to concider.
- Pay close attention to what your wearing. This is a professional business site, you want to project that about yourself! Dress accordingly!
- Do not take a selfie. Have a friend take the image for you. Your smart phone is fine, you do not need a huge expensive camera!
- Take the image in 3/4 view, or front on. Do not use side profile images, or looking back over the shoulder.
- The background is important in that it is not important! Minimize the amount of distractions in the back ground. This does not have to be a passport image or ID image but keep the background simple.
- Take the shot so that it shows you from the chest, or top of your shoulders up. Do not expose cleavage or chest hair. Again be professional, unless you are looking for work as Tarzan, or Jane.
Follow these simple steps and create a great first impression on Linked in!!
