Kit Killington
Founder & Agent at Killington Arts Illustration Agency. Facilitating beautiful projects and building careers for over 25 years
Our first Four x Four of the month highlights the delicate artistry of Meilo So. With over 30 years of professional experience, her exquisite illustrations have appeared in magazines, books, packaging, and advertising. She is perhaps best known for her numerous children’s books, many of which are beloved favorites in our own homes, and each one brings joy, engagement, and a deep appreciation of nature.?
Born in Hong Kong and educated in the UK, Meilo has earned international recognition for her refined graphic style. Her fluid, sinuous watercolor, ink, and gouache illustrations bring colour and warmth to each project. She also produces work for her own publishing company, So and Co Books.
As ever, you can see more of her work on our website, social media or Behance pages.
Meilo So's delicate strokes bring an ethereal quality and carry heartfelt narratives with ease and grace. ??
Her character-driven illustrations encourage us to reflect and suggest environmental or personal lessons that we are still to learn, blending culture and storytelling with depth and meaning. Meilo's dynamic brushwork and masterful attention to expression and body language transport us to worlds we long to explore and make our own.
Her portfolio is a testament to her exceptional talent, and more of her captivating work can be explored on our website or join us on social media.
Meilo So's enchanting illustrations for the children's book, Water Sings Blue bring the coast to life on the page. Through the fluidity of watercolor, Meilo beautifully complements Kate Coombs' poetic celebration of the sea, capturing its wonder and natural beauty. With vibrant hues and expressive detail, her artwork invites us to pause, observe, and immerse ourselves in the magic of the shoreline.
If you would like to see more from Meilo's portfolio, do visit our website, join us on Behance or drop us a line.
Meilo's long relationships with clients have enabled her to explore new ideas and working methods to the full. Working with Marks and Spencer, Meilo created a wonderful array of sumptuous and expressive images that graced food packaging around the store.
Watercolor illustrations bring a unique blend of artistry and elegance to branding. With their fluid brushstrokes and organic textures, they create a sense of warmth, authenticity, and craftsmanship that resonates with all of us. Perfect for artisan products, and eco-friendly brands, her illustrations tell a delicious story of health and wellbeing.
If you would like to see more of her work do please drop by to our website or Instagram pages - or just give us a call!
As agents, we have the privilege of witnessing an incredible variety of stunning artwork flow through our inboxes daily. Yet, every so often, we are fortunate enough to experience something truly special - the arrival of a shipment filled with original, hand-painted illustrations.
While Meilo So often delivers her breathtaking work in digital format, the illustrations she created for Butterflies Belong Here were hand-painted on exquisite, heavyweight watercolor paper. Holding these pieces in our hands, seeing the delicate brushstrokes up close, and feeling the texture of the paper added an entirely new dimension to our appreciation of her artwork. There is something visceral about interacting with artwork in its original form and it is an experience that connects us more deeply to the artist’s process and vision.?
We would be delighted to connect with you so do subscribe if you haven't already to share your thoughts, stay informed about our latest images, or instantly message our principal agent, Kit Killington. We look forward to hearing from you!
