The First Glimpse of Spring
I’ll admit it — my mood gets exceedingly better as the temperature gets warmer. The recent glimpse of spring brought out my pure love for this campus. Pulling the tennis skirts and tank tops out of the back of my drawers acts as a catalyst for my positive attitude (Let’s all just look past the greater issue, that is, the sun controlling my happiness.).?
Yesterday was the first one of those days for me, this year. I know it was pretty last week too, but if you keep up with my blogs, you recall I was a little busy falling in the snow.?
As a self-proclaimed night owl, I am pleased to say I did not feel even an ounce of anger as the light shining through my window woke me up. I opened my eyes knowing it was going to be a good day.?
I headed to campus early. The extra time allowed me to simply enjoy the moment. The quad looked a little more like Myrtle Beach than Chapel Hill; emphasizing, I am not the only one who gets this way.?
The only real issue with this kind of weather is the immediate desire to skip class and be outside. I went to both of my classes, but I’ll admit a small debate occurred in my mind before attending.?
I figured it would be the perfect day for a first. I decided to grab a Bojangles three piece supreme meal after class, and stay on campus long enough to see the sunset from a new spot.?
My friend, Alec, recommended the Business School parking deck. I called Hayley and we planned to watch it there together. My phone said sunset was at 6:04 p.m., so I planned for us to get to the top floor of the deck by then.?
As we walked to my car, I received a text from Alec asking if he could join after his class. Of course, he was welcome to come along; however, I wish his class would have ended just a few minutes earlier.?
We waited for Alec in the Skipper Bowles lot. I watched the clock tick 6:05 p.m. as he ran up, and I had a feeling we were going to be too late. To Alec’s credit, I could tell he hustled to get there, and I was later informed he battled self-diagnosed “extreme ankle discomfort” along the way.?
We eventually got to the top and saw a couple pink clouds at the bottom of the sky. I’m not sure you could count it as watching the sunset though. Despite the missed sunset, my mood stayed the same. I drove around campus, windows down and music up, and the overwhelming sense of fulfillment never left.??
So, what was going to be my first sunset from the B-School deck, turned into the first glimpse of spring in 2023.? It was such a good day, and I’ll try catching the sunset again soon :-)
