First Ever Enterprise Architecture Conference in the Philippines, a Great Success!
MAKATI – The first ever Enterprise Architecture Philippines Conference held last March 16 was a great success! Organized by the Association of Enterprise Architects Philippines (AEA-PH), the event was attended by over a hundred participants representing various industries, government institutions, and the academe. It was co-presented by Oracle, Google, and Globe Telecommunications.
The conference was kicked-off by the current AEA-PH President Francis Uy who challenged participants to consider a career in Enterprise Architecture (EA) to help drive a world-class Philippines.
Several presentations and panel sessions followed explaining the value of EA in and outside of I.T., as well as its links to Business Process Management, Service Oriented Architecture, and the Cloud.
The conference’s key note speaker was the Vice President and General Manager for the Open Group in Asia Pacific, Chris Forde. Chris presented how the TOGAF Architecture Development Method can be applied to various industries including the British Nuclear Submarine program.
The first panel was about practical application of EA. Speakers include Jovita Aragona (PhilHealth CIO), Glenn Mendoza (Seaoil CIO), and Mario Domingo (founder of iLoop).
The second panel was about Business Architecture and the discussions were led by Chris Forde, and Andre Fournier, a BPM consultant, Information Management at Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation, and lecturer in the De La Salle University (DLSU).
The third panel looked at technical and application architecture styles with Necito dela Cruz of Boston Scientific talking about Data Architecture and Mike Oliver of SMART Telecom discussing Service Oriented Architecture.
Johny Benitez from Google Apps and Pang Chia for Oracle shared methods in Cloud Security and Enterprise Private Cloud respectively.
The event was closed by the Vice President of AEA-PH, Calix Enggay.
Overall, participants agree that this conference successfully created a network for the EA practice in the Philippines and increased awareness about this management discipline and competency. The event organizers would like to thank our Project Managers Maureen Sy and James Nesperos for their hard work, as well as Allan Borra and Jem Reyes for hosting the panel discussions.
Monthly learning webinars are being planned by AEA-PH to continue developing the capability of the community in the country. Furthermore, there are already plans for a 2-day event on March 16-17, 2017, which will be jointly presented by the Open Group and the Association of Enteprise Architects Philippines.
