Do you know anyone who seems to be bulletproof??
It’s that colleague or friend that takes failures in stride. They just smile, bounce back quickly, and push forward in life. ?
When no one is immune to setbacks or hardship, how they do it? ?
It starts with Step One: not allowing Life's inevitable difficulties to keep them from living the life they desire.?
It is very possible that person can be you. ?
Mental Resilience can be learned and developed by incorporating improved behaviors, thoughts, and actions. ?It's not a character trait you have to be born with. Every time you suffer some type of painful loss or failure, you have an opportunity to build that resilience muscle with time and intentionality for emotional control.?
Psychology defines “resilience” as the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or significant sources of stress. When bouncing back from those difficult experiences, profound personal growth occurs.?
There are times finding some self-control seems to be impossible. Many components work together to grow your resilience. When those dismal moments surface, try this one approach.?

"Never confuse a single defeat with a final defeat."?
That is a powerful reminder that the attitude of your outlook is everything. The person with resilience chooses to see the challenge with curiosity, not fear or self-condemnation, to look for the potential positive (Spoiler Alert: there usually is at least one!). They accept that less than desirable things will happen in everyday life. Yet, they don't give them permission to ruin the rest of their journey. ?
You can either become stronger and more capable or allow a defeat or failure to be a statement of who you are.?
They don't embrace any single failure or loss as the final declaration of who they (or you) really are. ?
This can seem like simple advice, but the truth is, sometimes, the adversity we encounter in life can be truly debilitating. We simply don't see a way out. The worst of possible things has happened. The path feels dark and heavy with no good coming from it.?
When this occurs, as it inevitably will in life, just take one step forward.?
Don't worry about some big end result. Despite the terrible situation, just make one small, positive movement. It will signal your brain to flip the negative switch to lean into your personal power. ?
Have one happy thought. One huge deep breath. One big hug. You pick. Then move in the preferred direction. Don't fret about the outcome. It is important to take the first step. That will move you a little bit further away from the difficulty you encountered and begin to feel better.?
The Takeaway: Life is not an exact science. Never let any single defeat be your final defeat. The instant you decide to relentlessly push forward, you show the world and prove to yourself that you are a resilient human being. You won't be kept down for long because your unbreakable, FOCUSED mental resolve won't allow you to be defined by defeat.?
