The First Day
Inside a tall glass building, a group of new employees—Rahul, Neha, Aisha, and Vikram—gathered with a combination of excitement and nervousness on their first day of work. They had no idea, the day ahead would be a rollercoaster of feelings, revealing what can make or break a new employee’s experience.
?A few weeks ago, they got an email inviting them to their new job. They were excited to start a new but became worried when they realized the email lacked important details.
“This seems incomplete,” Rahul informed his brother, wondering about the schedule, what to wear, and who to report to.

The Parking Challenge
?When they reached the office, they were full of hope but got disappointed to find there wasn’t any parking space.
?“Why don’t they have a parking spot for employees?” Neha reacted, who had arrived early and faced trouble finding a spot, which made her miss the initial introductions happening inside.
?
The Long Entry
?They needed to go through a security checkpoint, causing an unexpected delay. Aisha, who wanted to make a good first impression, dressed nicely but got stressed while waiting in a long line for the security check.
”This is time-consuming,” she said and ended up missing the chance to talk to her new colleagues.
?The Uninviting Workspace
?Inside the office, they found their workspaces. Neha and Aisha, who had met each other in the morning, shared their lack of enthusiasm about their first day at work.
?“The desk seems professional but the set-up is messy,” Neha complained.
?“The light above my desk is no good either,” Aisha replied.
They were unhappy to see their space untidy, nothing like the welcoming setup they had expected. The uncomfortable chair and flickering light at their desk didn’t help them feel at ease either.

?Food Frustration
?Lunchtime came, and they went to the company canteen. Vikram bonded with Rahul over lunch. Although, they wanted to connect with more co-workers their afternoon was spent struggling to find vegetarian options that suited their diet. The lack of choices made them feel isolated and took away from them a chance to build camaraderie.
?Too Much Information
?Afternoon meetings began, and they were in back-to-back sessions. The meetings had a lot of information, which made them feel overwhelmed and unable to absorb everything. The boring format also made it tough to stay focused and engage with the company’s goals challenging.
Neha bumped into Rahul’s cabin, and asked him, “First day?”
To which, Rahul responded, “Maybe the last”, and they shared a laugh.

Saying Goodbye
?At the end of the day, all of them gathered to leave. The security guard was polite but didn’t utter any pleasant words.
“He didn’t even greet good evening”, Aisha shared her view with Neha.
Vikram overheard her and added, ‘Much similar to the “good morning” and “have a great day” I had expected in the morning. “By the way, the first day?”
Neha rephrased Rahul’s words which she remembered, “first and the last.”
The challenges of the day left an impact. Rahul, Aisha, Neha, and Vikram left feeling uncertain and disappointed, as their first day was marked with difficulties.
?None of them returned for the second day. They quit, as their experiences highlighted the problems that can ruin the first day of a new job. From communication issues to logistical difficulties and missed chances to connect, their story showed the pitfalls of onboarding. Even though their beginning was rough, their experiences emphasized the need to fix various issues to create a more welcoming and supportive environment for new employees.
