What to Keep in mind?
1. Attitude and passion matter more than anything else
Some might find it exciting, some might find it overwhelming; a lot of new processes, systems, procedures to learn. It will test your skills but the only thing required is; the go-getter attitude to complete the work given to you! With the right attitude you will figure out multiple ways to do stuff.
Your attitude to learn, excel in fact should be infectious and you should be fun to work with! Everyone should want you in their team
Skills are cheap ; passion is priceless
2. Don't get discouraged when problems arise
There will be numerous hurdles; you might find it intimidating. Could be those hunderds of things you should sell, Tens of positions you need to close as a recruiter ! But lo and behold when you put your mind to it and work towards achieving it; you will find everything falling into place.
Dont Give up; One day you will look back and be glad you didnt
3. Learn to manage your manager
Understand that you are there to make your manager's life easier. That is the biggest mantra. Your boss should be rest assured that you will give your best for every task given and close it.
Go hard or go home
4. Don't worry too much about performance ratings
You shouldn't be worried about performance ratings initially. You should be worried if you are not learning something new every day! 1 or 2 bad ratings will not affect you. There is for most of you 30+ year career ahead. Even if you have 10 very good years (some might call it promotions) out of it; you will reach somewhere in life
Do your best and forget the rest
5. People Skills
I would rate this as the most important trait to be successful at workplace. How to talk to people, influence them, socialise, push to get your agenda through and get work done is important!
You have to start first, to finish something
6. Tough boss
You might dread them and hate them; but someone who is able to push you to the limit is someone who will let you uncover all those hidden talents you have. You will thank them later in life!
Its not about how many years of experience you have . It is about the quality of experience
7. Culture
Success and failure in an organisation largely depends upon whether you are a cultural fit or not. It is possible that a complete failure in an organisation is a superstar when he goes to another. In some cases it also happens when you move teams/departments within an organisation. Faster you understand this the better!
No Pain . No gain
8. Take higher responsibilities
Don't underestimate yourself; It is possible to move mountains once you put your heart and soul into it. Whenever someone trusts you and gives higher responsibility accept it. If there is a position available or project that interest you, just go for it. The worst thing that can happen is that you will understand your strengths, capabilities and emerge stronger.
