First contact - What is "The Left Nod"

Yo, check this out!

Welcome to my weekly newsletter, and welcome to the future!

As the subtitle suggests, the future is imminent and we have to embrace it or be assimilated

It's similar to the Borg mantra which goes the following way: "We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile." (Star Trek: First Contact)

"The Left Nod" Of The Week title was inspired by the below meme and in body language means, check this out!

Starting with this intro and the first episode, thanks in advance for subscribing, I will be bringing you some good news and bad news from multiple TECH industries and from the gaming industry. This is not a weekly digest, but rather an analysis of what's happening around the world and affecting your business and personal life.

I will also be talking with experts in their fields to bring you some exclusives.

Today, I would like to report on some interesting news that you might have missed but has set a precedent in the scope of data privacy.

Jacqueline O’Doherty, a geriatric care manager was refused to see records and even the medication list for an 80-year-old patient who was being transferred from a hospital to a nearby recovery facility after suffering acute respiratory distress, even though the older woman had signed a form appointing O’Doherty as a “designated representative”. Even if the law in many countries including the USA guarantees that people have a right to see and obtain a copy of their medical records, in the end, It depends on the institution whether they will or won’t let you do it.

Chao Cheng Shorland, a veteran female founder joined forces with Allen Alishahi, an Iranian expat, and together they found a way to help patients receive full ownership over their medical records and control to whom they can give access, through ShelterZoom, a blockchain-based, smart-document SaaS provider. By partnering with Policlinico Modelo de Cipolletti, a leading private hospital in Argentina, Chao, and Allen took the first step in mancipating patients globally to have full control over their medical records via document tokenization. It will allow them to share their medical data with other doctors and hear second or third opinions whenever they want. It will also prevent bureaucratic delays and mistakes which are so crucial in healthcare.??

Through the partnership, the hospital will integrate ShelterZoom’s?DocuWalk?and?Document GPS?solutions to empower patients with complete ownership and control over their medical records, offering a glimpse into Web3’s potential to drastically improve healthcare delivery.

Historically, medical records have been considered the property of clinicians or health institutions, and a study conducted by Yale researchers found that only?53 percent?of hospitals allow patients to receive their complete records. This lack of patient access makes sharing sensitive medical records between hospitals and healthcare providers or facilities a complicated process?defined by bureaucratic hold-ups and patient frustrations. As a result, patients experience unnecessary delays in receiving care, which directly impacts the quality of care.?

For now, I'll leave you with one of the latest podcast episodes I've recorded with Chao Cheng Shorland, Co-Founder and CEO of ShelterZoom, and Allen Alishahi, Co-Founder & President of ShelterZoom where we talk about this historical moment of data sharing and data privacy at its best use.
