First CardioMEMS? Heart Failure (HF) system implanted
Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust
Working together to drive excellence in care for our patients and communities
Staff at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust have just implanted their first patient with the CardioMEMS? Heart Failure (HF) system. CardioMEMS?, Abbott (formerly St Jude Medical), is a small implanted pulmonary artery pressure sensor that, when measurements are taken daily by the patient in their own home, enables clinical staff to optimise and manage heart failure medication.
This is the first HF monitoring system and has been proven to reduce heart failure hospital admissions and improve quality of life in patients with severe heart failure.
Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, is one of a number of sites in the UK evaluating the technology in the #NHS.
