The first batch of CMTs
The first of the Customary Marine Titles under the Marine and Coastal Areas (Takutai Moana) Act 2011 and Ngā Rohe Moana o Ngā Hapū o Ngāti Porou Act 2019 are available on the Land Information New Zealand website.

The Great Trigonometrical Survey of India began about 220 years ago. Increasing certainty for land titles was a feature of New Zealand land titles from early settlement. The Land Transfer or Torrens system has been in place for a little over 150 years.
It is interesting to see what passes for a land register in modern New Zealand. Apparently, land titles can now be officially defined by vague references to metes and bounds boundaries that appear to, in no way, relate to the Mean High Water Springs, the supposed boundary (at least for publicly owned parcels) for titles defined under statute.
