First Algorithms, Now the Pandemic: What Is the Future of Love?
Tim Leberecht
Co-Founder and Co-CEO, House of Beautiful Business; author, The Business Romantic and The End of Winning; speaker, curator, advisor
This past week in the House of Beautiful Business virtual Living Room, we started co-writing a new collective narrative, imagined urban space, mobility, and a sense of belonging in the post-pandemic city, and learned how to journal our way through anything.
This week is all about feelings: from romantic and other forms of love to empathy – the ability to feel with someone. Tomorrow, on Sunday, April 26, we will host a book reading in collaboration with An Author a Day, an initiative for writers in the time of the coronavirus by the photographer Beowulf Sheehan. And on Friday we will celebrate International Labor Day in style with DJ Cheraé Robinson and our House Party.
The party will also mark our 25th Living Room Session! Almost 10,000 people have joined sessions since we started the series in January, and we are grateful for the opportunity to bring together a global community of beautiful minds and souls who share the desire to foster our shared humanity during this crisis and explore, debate, and shape a positive vision for the time after it. To keep this conversation open to everyone, we decided to extend our free and public program offering until the end of May.

How to Apply Empathy
Nobody would say they are not empathetic, right? Though true empathy, the ability to see the world through someone else’s eyes, is not about only about being nice, nor is it about pity or sympathy. Learn how to use empathy as a powerful leadership tool and practice. This session will be led by Michael Ventura, CEO of award-winning strategy and design practice Sub Rosa. He has worked with such iconic brands and institutions as General Electric, Google, Nike, Warby Parker, the United Nations, and the Obama Administration, and is the author of the book Applied Empathy.
