First 5G trial across Channel Islands and Isle of Man

Today Sure have launched the first 5G trial for consumers and businesses across Channel Islands and Isle of Man. Credit to Sure's employees and its partner Huawei who have worked tirelessly since a couple of months.

It is a great milestone for our communities which will support innovation and help steer the future 5G use cases. It cements Sure's network and digital leadership, around 37 operators across 21 countries (including UK) have 5G launched according to GSMA. This complements last month announcement about an ambitious multimillion-pound investment plan to futureproof critical network infrastructure even further.

In not such distant future, 5G will connect trillions of devices, transport exabytes of data a day (by 2025, it’s estimated that 463 exabytes of data will be created each day globally – that’s the equivalent of 212,765,957 DVDs per day! - that tells you how old I am...) and increase the intelligence and capabilities of those devices whether deployed in business or/and consumer environments.

This sheer increase in connections and data coupled with the AI shift are giving way to decentralized architectures with several key design criteria to balance right: bandwidth, cost, latency, privacy and security.
