How to kickstart your transition from coach to facilitator by defining your vision, mission, and values.
When I decided to expand my reach, impact and financial reward by transitioning from one-on-one coaching to workshop facilitation, I didn’t know where to start. In fact, it took me a long time to get things off the ground. One of the main reasons was my lack of a clear purpose: the vision, mission and values.
To find your purpose, you must ask yourself some deep questions, such as: What is most important in my business? What difference would I like to have made? How would I like to be remembered? What is the legacy would I like to leave behind? Once you know your WHY, your vision becomes more evident; it serves as a reminder of your ultimate destination. Your mission includes the actions required to achieve your vision. It is your ‘HOW’, the path to achieve the vision. ?And your values (aligned and supported by your actions and decisions) serve as the internal compass to keep you on the path.
“A clear vision, backed by definite plans, gives you a tremendous feeling of confidence and personal power.” ~ Brian Tracy

Let me share with you these 3 essential steps to ensure a successful transition into your new business venture. By the end, you’ll have a clear foundation to elevate your coaching business to new heights.

Step 1: Defining your vision
Your vision is the ultimate destination you aim to reach in your journey. It serves as a guiding star, helping you stay focused on your goals and aspirations.
Your vision encapsulates the future you aspire to create, a destination that inspires. It serves as your guiding star, driving you forward and reminding you of the impact you aim to make. Crafting a clear and compelling vision is essential to ensure your services have meaningful impact and align with your long-term objectives.
Now, it’s time to write your vision statement. Make sure you:

Step 2: Crafting your mission?
Your mission is the actionable statement that defines how you will achieve your vision and purpose. In contrast to the vision statement, the mission describes what steps you will take, the audience you serve and the core principles that will guide your actions.
A well-defined mission statement provides clarity and direction, ensuring that every service you deliver is purposeful and aligned with your overarching vision. Questions to consider when writing your mission statement include: What core activities or functions are essential to fulfil my purpose? How do my actions positively impact my target audience or community? What problems or needs do I address through my mission? How does my mission contribute to the long-term success of my business? How does my mission align with and contribute to the overarching vision and purpose?

Now, it’s time to write your mission statement. Make sure you keep it short and to-the-point; I recommend 50 words or less.
Step 3: Identifying your values
Your values serve as your internal compass and are the core principles that underpin your vision and mission. They shape your approach to everything you create and every decision you make. Clear values help you create a consistent and authentic experience for your clients, fostering trust and engagement.
“Values are like lighthouses; they are signals giving us direction, meaning, and purpose.” ~ Recruiter Journal
Identifying your personal and business values involves a thoughtful process to define the core principles that guide behaviours, actions and decisions. While your personal values might differ from your organisational values, they must be aligned and go hand in hand.
To get the thought process started, google ‘values list’ and note the words that stick out and resonate on a mental and emotional level. You can ask yourself: What values would contribute to a positive professional environment? How should I interact with and serve my clients? What values would build strong and positive relationships with stakeholders? Are there values that reflect a commitment to sustainability and social impact?
Now, it’s time to formalise your values:
