First 100 days in DEKRA North America as a Project Administrator.

The first step into DEKRA.

“Is there a Safety fire drill going on, are you safe? Do you need to evacuate?” asked Wendy Thurston , Talent Acquisition at DEKRA North America. Her words convinced me that DEKRA lives up to the mantra - On the Safe Side; not only within the company culture but also in the talent scouting journey. It was the lunch time bell at a high school I was substituting for the day when I took the interview call with Wendy. Of course, the bell rang - twice, to be exact.

DEKRA Ritual.

The first 100 days plan involved orientation for New Hire, meeting the managers, colleagues, and leaders of the C&T department (Consulting & Training), attending the offsite Process Safety department’s face-to-face meeting; etc., Outlook calendar filling up - purposefully.

One of the beautiful DEKRA North America physical office is in Oxnard, California.

Every Tuesday, I look forward to the weekly Team Huddle meeting led by Carina Keprios, PMP (aka my awesome boss) ??. There, I learnt the DEKRA meeting Ritual - every meeting begins with a safety moment.

A safety moment is a brief safety talk by someone in the team – sharing a safety tip they have personally experienced or have observed in their week.

One safety moment to remember was by Addrianne Conway . Her safety moment on (almost) driving a 3-wheel truck down the road. Well - almost 3-wheels, she was safely parked on the roadside before the 4th wheel rolled off. Safety tip? Always double-check the bolts / lug nuts of each wheel after a tire rotation service. Luck only gets you so far.

Put On the Process Safety Hat.

Process Safety department is my homebase.

My day to day revolves around matching the consultant’s expertise with the project’s scope of work, maintain high accuracy on forecasting, and keeping key stakeholders of the project informed. The ability to adapt is crucial for this role as elements in a project move from time to time.

The people I work with and projects I work on involve the areas of Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA), Process Hazard Assessment (PHA), Process Safety Management (PSM), Code Compliance and Risk Management.
