About Fire Hose

What is fire hose?

Fire hose. It is a hose used to transport high-pressure water or foam and other flame-retardant liquids. Traditional fire hoses are lined with rubber and wrapped with a braided linen outer surface. Advanced fire hoses are made of polymer materials such as polyurethane. There are metal joints at both ends of the fire hose, which can be connected to another hose to extend the distance or a nozzle to increase the liquid spray pressure.

The basic structure of a fire hose consists of five parts: fabric layer, lining, coating, covering layer and adhesive layer. A soft, coilable round or flat tubular body of a certain length, usually composed of a cylindrical fabric layer woven with warp and weft threads and a lining (or covering layer) that is combined by steam vulcanization or adhesive.

Classification of fire hose

  • Classified by use:

  1. Combat fire hose. Fire hoses used by professional firefighters to extinguish fires at accident sites (such as factories, high-rise buildings, etc.).
  2. Deliver fire hose. Water belts used to transport large amounts of water over long distances between fire pumps and fire trucks, fire trucks and fire trucks, or other industrial and agricultural situations. They are usually divided into two types: mortgaged water transport and high-pressure water transport.
  3. Forest fire hose. Water hoses used to extinguish wild fires in forests, gardens, pastures, etc. have a small diameter.
  4. Straw. A hose that draws or suctions water by means of a vacuum from an unpressurized source of water, such as a lake, river, or well.

  • Classified by structure:

  1. Unlined fire hose. Now eliminated.
  2. Lined fire hose. Refers to fire hoses with rubber, PVC, TPU, etc. as lining in the fabric layer.
  3. Fire wet hose. Compared with lined hoses, the belt body is arranged with regular pinholes. Under a certain pressure, the fire-extinguishing medium in the hose can evenly penetrate and wet the belt body, playing a role in protecting the hose at the fire scene.

How to maintain fire hose?

  1. Check the usage time of the fire hose. Generally speaking, the service life of the fire hose is about 5 years and needs to be replaced when it expires.
  2. Check the appearance of the fire hose for obvious aging, wear, cracks, etc., especially the connectors and hose body. If there is any problem, replace it immediately.
  3. Fire hoses that have expired, aged, worn, cracked and other serious problems should be replaced immediately to ensure fire safety.
  4. Quality inspection must be carried out after replacement to ensure the reliability and safety of the fire hose.

How to use the fire hose correctly?

  1. During use, check whether the connection of the fire hose is normal and whether the hose is unobstructed.
  2. When installing dry powder or foam liquid fire hoses, pay attention to selecting correct seals and joints to ensure that the fire hoses can transport fire extinguishing media safely and reliably.
  3. When in use, the fire hose must be twisted and opened, and the pressure gradually released after opening the faucet. The hose must not be impacted, burned, or bent repeatedly.
  4. When not in use, it should be stored and maintained in accordance with regulations, paying attention to moisture, sun protection, and corrosion protection.
