Fire Drills and Ambushes

The fire alarm went off Thursday. Sometimes they turn it on to answer the question "Have you heard the fire alarm in past year?" Management is checking a box to please their bosses. Most of what they claim to care about is to cover their posteriors.

The fire alarm went off. One of my colleagues took this as an opening to go to the bathroom. That doesn't seem like a problem to me- he was holding it for a while. He was lambasted for it.

"What if this was a real emergency?" Go ahead and hide behind that. None of the belt supervisors told us this was an actual fire drill. We walked to the meeting point and the supervisor who acts so friendly in meetings yelled at us for not exiting quickly.

When she acts a fool in meetings, turning it into a pep rally, none of us are impressed or join in with false excitement. Company meetings are a total waste of time that we only have because they are pleasing someone else.

I treat it like the TSA line. Stupid, pointless and endure it for a minute. This supervisor treats us like schoolchildren. If she is going to behave like an elementary school teacher, she should be paid as such.

Keep in mind, there was a tornado warning last summer. We were told to keep on working. They want to finish as soon as possible to make a larger bonus. So what if a tornado hit the building? It didn't.

The fact we were yelled at for not going out of the building single file- this is what I feared from alcoholics. I don't drink and didn't go to parties in school because I did not want someone to say something rude under the influence.

With a memory like mine, when they said "It was the booze talking" my response would be "Who drank the booze?" That was obviously your true feelings. When all is said and done I won't recall the false excitement in morning meetings. No, the true anger at the end of the of the day- some people are complicated. Others are basic and the anger and threatening to fire someone who shows up every day on time- relationships have to grow.

Some people take up space and exist in your life. Once they find new opportunities, it is a relief. I cannot say when that will happen. Right now, we all have our crosses to bear and some act like they are nice and their actions tell an entirely different story.
