Fire Door Safety Guidelines
Here are some general do's and don'ts for fire doors:
Do's:
- Ensure that fire doors are installed correctly and meet local fire safety regulations.
- Keep fire doors closed at all times, unless they are propped open by an approved device that automatically releases the door in the event of a fire.
- Regularly inspect fire doors for damage, wear and tear, and ensure that they are functioning correctly.
- Install and maintain the appropriate signage on fire doors, such as "Fire Door Keep Closed" or "Fire Door Do Not Block."
- Train employees and occupants on the importance of keeping fire doors closed and how to properly use them.
Don'ts:
- Do not prop open fire doors with wedges, chairs, or any other object that could prevent the door from closing in the event of a fire.
- Do not remove any parts or components of a fire door, such as seals, latches, or hinges, as this can compromise its ability to function correctly in a fire.
- Do not install locks, chains, or any other device that could prevent a fire door from closing or make it difficult to open in an emergency.
- Do not block or obstruct fire doors with furniture, equipment, or any other object that could prevent them from closing or interfere with their operation in a fire.
- Do not use fire doors as regular exit or entrance doors, as this can lead to damage or wear and tear that may compromise their effectiveness in a fire.
