Fire consumes more than 10 thousand m2 of eucalyptus plantation on the banks of SP-300 in the interior of SP
A large fire hit a eucalyptus plantation on the side of the Marechal Rondon Highway (SP-300) in Anhembi, S?o Paulo, on the afternoon of Thursday, September 12, 2024. The fire, which started around 4:00 p.m., devastated approximately 10,000 m2 and generated a large cloud of smoke, attracting the attention of drivers.
The S?o Paulo State Transportation Agency (Artesp) mobilized three water tanker trucks to fight the flames. However, the Fire Department was unable to provide support due to insufficient teams in the region. The company responsible for the plantation reported that since September 10, it has been fighting fires in the area, using 30 people, seven water tanker trucks, five brigades, four light vehicles, and air support.
Another significant fire broke out on Thursday night in the vegetation of Morro do Peru, between Botucatu and Bocaina. The Fire Department and Civil Defense are monitoring the flames to prevent them from spreading, as the area is difficult to access and is home to several species of animals and virgin forest.
