Finishing What You Begin

Finishing What You Begin

As a writer, how do you stay motivated long enough to complete a project?

The most essential thing to remember is that you don't have to be motivated all of the time. It isn't necessary to be motivated all of the time. You are free to write in any case.

If you have a job, you probably don't feel very motivated to go to work every day, yet you do it regardless.

Do you intend to complete a book? Then you sit down and work on it every day until it's finished.

You do it because you've committed to it. You do it because the benefits outweigh the risks.

You might be inspired on some days. You might not be able to do so on other days. Nonetheless, you continue to work.?

If you keep working, the inspiration will eventually return. You tend to what's left of the fire, that tiny flickering light, and it eventually rekindles.

You, on the other hand, do not require it. You'll finish what you've started whether you have it or not.

And at the end of it all, you'll have a poem, a tale, a screenplay, or a novel!

That's an excellent reward for your efforts.

So here's some advice:

  • Decide when you're ready to dedicate yourself to a specific writing project. Then stick to your word. Treat your writing as a job on days when you're not feeling inspired.
  • If fresh project ideas pop into your head while you're working on a text, jot them down in a different notebook so you can come back to them later.
  • Advance planning can assist some authors avoid losing steam in the middle of a project. If you're working with a plan or extensive notes, you'll always know what to write next, even if you're not feeling inspired.
  • Remind yourself of the reward that awaits you at the end of the process.

Remember, doing your best is the key to success. Even if it doesn't lead to significant results, success can be gained by giving it your all in all you do.
