It is finished!

First issues of COTMI published
Of course, we do not want in any way to compare the publication of the first issue of COTMI China Outbound Tourism Market Intelligence with the momentous events described in the Bible, with “It is finished” according to John’s Gospel being the sixth of the seven utterances of Jesus on the cross.
Nevertheless, all the editors in Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece and Egypt as well as your humble editor coordinating the process from – of all places – Nepal, were relieved yesterday when they could report the successful start of the first issue of COTMI.
Please have a look at the information provided about COTMI on www.china-outbound.com and feel free to ask for a free sample copy in English, German, Spanish, Italian or Arabic, or for the English version of the Arab countries edition and the English edition for Greece and Cyprus.
If you need arguments to convince your organisation or company or destinations that engaging with China as a tourism source market is actually a good and necessary thing to do, the Deep Dive Analysis of the first issue offers no less than 16 of such arguments. They should have even convinced Thomas, the sceptical disciple of Jesus.
Meanwhile, Nepal provides a good example of how to restart China’s outbound tourism. At the end of this month, Pokhara, the second-biggest city of Nepal will see charter flights from China landing at the brand new big international airport, which until now has no international connections to show. Eight times a day ATR 72s fly between Kathmandu and Pokhara (25 minutes flight time), but the international part of the airport is empty. The reason for the charter flights from China is the first Nepal-China Friendship Dragon Boat Festival, which was invented by the Nepal Tourism Board, the city government of Pokhara and the Overseas Chinese organisation of Nepal and is supported by the Chinese embassy in Nepal. The end of June is the low season in Nepal because of the monsoon rains, so this event fulfils several functions: filling hotel rooms in off-season, showcasing the new airport to Chinese airlines and deepening the relations between the two countries.
You will be able to read more background about Chinese tourism to Nepal in one of the coming issues of – you guessed it – COTMI China Outbound Tourism Market Intelligence.
Next week, your humble editor will be back in Germany, having enjoyed a month in Asia for the first time in three long years.
As always, best wishes from Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Georg Arlt FRGS FRAS and the entire COTRI Weekly team to all our readers!
