Finish Strong Friday Song and Thoughts October 6, 2023
Dear Colleagues and Friends:
Email Issue #?222
Like many communities, East Haven has a highly skilled team of dedicated staff that utilize Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to help identify struggling students early and intervene quickly. Students referred to MTSS are reported in the traditional measures of school success to exhibit significantly deficient performance compared to same-age peers in one or more areas, including academic, social, emotional, behavioral, and attendance.
In addition to attending weekly meetings, I interviewed 92 students referred to the MTSS Team during the 2022-2023 school year.
I asked Five Questions of each student.
1)?? Are there any jobs, careers, or experiences you have seen or heard of that interest you?
2)?? Name an adult or adults you can rely on or trust in school.
3)?? What needs to change for you to enjoy or be excited about your classes?

4)?? What talent or skill makes you stand out from others?
5)?? Where do you see yourself in 1 year? In 5 years? ??
These specific questions were utilized because they can be presented empathically. They provide the respondent with space to construct their response while encouraging them to take the initiative to be inspired to carry through change. The questions also provide robust data that is actionable.
In the following issues, I will report on the data and lessons learned from students.
Sincerely, Bob
