The Finest for Your Family (or Company Founder or CEO): Statement Artwork, Iconic Portraits on 8×10 Film

Legacy artworks–they’re not just for the U.S. President and First Lady.

Most people would say that for portraits of their family, “Eh, digital is good enough.”

The thing is, YOU’RE not most people. Neither am I. We’re the ones who seek the finest, the best–that’s who we are. We care about quality. We can’t accept less, certainly not good enough.

We understand the finest things in life aren’t necessarily the quickest or cheapest to make. Why artisan furniture costs more than what’s mass-produced for department stores. Why a craft IPA is more expensive than a Pabst Blue Ribbon. Why a Mercedes or BMW or Porsche is better-designed and built and has a higher price than a Kia. And why a meal by a Michelin-star chef costs more but is so worth it.

It’s why, instead of using the typical Sony or Canon DSLR and electronic lenses and shooting megapixels that create typical family photos, I choose a Wisner Expedition Black American Cherry wood and brass camera which was handmade in Marion, Massachusettes that uses 8×10 film. With a German-made Goerz Dagor 12″ lens that was used to photograph Hollywood stars including Marlon Brando. (It’s true, I got it from the estate of esteemed celebrity photographer Tony Venti.) The same kind of camera and film that’s been used since the dawn of photography and has made many of the most iconic portraits of all time.

8×10 film is the ultimate quality for photography. (It’s what Ansel Adams used to make his famous landscape photographs, and Richard Avedon to make his iconic portraits for Harpers Bazaar and Vogue.)

The best time to make a special family portrait, the kind you and your friends would call iconic—a statement art piece for your family and home—is today. The second best time is as soon as my schedule allows. I don’t photograph 100-200 families a year, maybe 20. There’s a lot that goes into it, planning and pre-production, they’re artisan photographs. I make my portraits myself and they take time, so please plan accordingly.

All my 8×10 portrait commissions include an in-person design consultation, location scouting, wardrobe selection, pre-production, the photography session, post-production, a hand-printed silver gelatin darkroom photograph, an online proof gallery, a large print for your home, and online photos for web/socials.

I create hand-printed artwork that will last for generations. It’s not like everyone else, just like you and your family are not like everyone else. You’re worth the best. Your family is, too.

Schedule a free design consultation so I can show you what I can create, and how we can work together to custom-design the right-sized, perfect framed piece of art for your home. 720-982-9237

The finer things in life are worth the extra cost. When it comes to many things, including photography, you really do get what you pay for.

Let’s get you and your family on my schedule and make something amazing.

Not ordinary. Extraordinary, like you!
