Is fine, fine?

Is anyone else completely obsessed with the show, “Ted Lasso?” The recent Emmy’s would say that many of us are and for good reason. From the humor and storytelling to the sports-based premise, there is a little something for every TV watcher.
For me, it’s the the leadership and life lessons that drew me in and kept me hooked episode after episode. Whether Ted is espousing about why we should have a 10 second memory or reminding us that riding a horse isn’t comfortable (and neither is growth), he has this beautiful combination of a calm demeanor, positive attitude and believability that makes me not only want to repeat many of his lines, but also live up to them.
Here are a few of my favorites and why:
“Don’t you dare settle for fine.” Roy Kent
This strikes at my core. I am constantly working on self-improvement and being the best that I can be. While this isn’t always possible and sometimes fine is “fine” (let’s face it, we are human), I do not believe “fine” should be our goal. We should always strive for more. We are worth it.
“I think you might be so sure that you’re one in a million, that sometimes you forget that out there you’re just one in 11.” – Ted Lasso

The team should always be at the core of your work. Whether you are in a team of two or 2,000, you need have a deep desire for everyone to succeed. Practice building each other up, supporting each other and helping everyone be the best version of themselves. Optimize … always, in all ways.
“There’s two buttons I never like to hit: that’s panic and snooze.” – Ted Lasso
Oh, the panic and snooze buttons. To never have to press them again sounds like an area of nirvana I will never visit. To tip my hat to the quote, it does say that you “never like to hit” them … and most of that time is true. We don’t like to and regret it later.
“Pressure makes pearls.” – Nate Shelley ??
A few months ago, I wrote about the need to look the entrance of “the pain cave” square in the eyes and walk inside. Growth comes on the other side of difficulty. No matter what, you will learn something. So, I love this quote from Nate, because I do believe we are all a little shinier, smoother and more polished when we summit life’s difficult moments.
I’d love to hear your favorite quote from Ted Lasso. Go Richmond!

3 年Great show and article. So many lessons to consume in each episode. Sad that it's ending after Season 3. One quote I like is by Higgins, "“I suppose the best brand is being yourself.” Too many times, executives and organization leaders push for team members to create a personal brand that is theirs rather than your own...leading to fake people or people pleasers.
