Finding your way to an... Epic Career
Echo Schneider
Managing Consultant, Guidehouse - Epic EHR, AI, Project Management, and beyond! #Unicorn
My entire professional career has always been on the business and technology side of the healthcare industry. As I celebrate my 10 year anniversary working within the Epic electronic health record (EHR) space specifically, I thought it would be a good time to reflect and share how to begin an Epic career like mine.
To give some background on the healthcare IT space specific to Epic, it can be a bit of a challenge to 'break into' from the outside, especially for those who desire a career traveling or in consulting. What I mean is that in order to do the type of work that I have spent many years doing, it requires certification from Epic.
In order to obtain that certification, you must work with an Epic partnered health system that can sponsor you and send you for that training. So for the vast majority of people, that is their career path to begin. Ten years later, this is the path that I took to begin and what I still recommend today.
If you have a health system in your area that uses Epic, I would search on their job page for that keyword and look for Analyst type positions.? In many cases, you will see in there that they require certification at hire, or within 6 months which means they will send you to obtain it. It may read something like this:
Once you have obtained your Epic certification and your first few years of work experience, here are some groups here on LinkedIn to check out for Epic job postings and consulting work:
I'd love to connect and answer any questions that you have on finding your Epic career!
