For many people, finding true meaning and happiness at work is farfetched dream. The amount of time we spend of our lives on our careers is significant, so it's only natural that we want to seek for that fulfilment and joy in what we do.
Unfortunately, that is not always possible and looking for that meaning, purpose and happiness is not just based on the job title we have, or the industry we work in, it runs much deeper than that. We all want to find that deeper meaningful connection with our work and our journey with our values and passions is critical to the happiness we feel.
For me my values in life - instilled to me by my late mum and grandma, were super simple & those that I choose to instil in my own family now,
"Be Good, Be Nice & Be Kind"
At the time I had no idea how much of an impact these few words would have on me, at growing up, in relationships, in the workplace and in interacting with people every single day, and it is only in the last 8 years I have truly benefited and fully understand how powerful those simple words are and the impact they have had; not only on me, but on those I connect with every day.
In this blog, we will explore actionable strategies to discover true meaning and happiness at work, leading to a more satisfying and purposeful career.
The first step in finding true meaning at work is self analysis. Take time to reflect on your core values, passions;
By identifying your values and passions, you can begin to steer your career towards paths that align with your authentic self and beliefs.
The second step is in setting meaningful goals. Meaningful work is often purpose-driven, and can help you stay focused and motivated.
The third step is to embrace your unique strengths and talents, afterall we are all different and those strengths & talents differ in us all. When you use your natural abilities to make a difference, you are likely to find greater satisfaction and happiness in your daily tasks, so be sure to embrace and leverage these strengths in your work.

The fourth step is to find purpose in your role, even in seemingly mundane jobs, finding purpose is possible. Connect the dots between your responsibilities and the larger goals of your organisation. Recognise how your contributions impact others positively and how your work serves a greater purpose.
The fifth step is to help cultivate a positive work environment. We've all been there where our workplaces have been toxic and we have been on edge from morning to night, worried that we'd made a mistake, not wanting to try something new. A positive work environment can significantly influence your sense of happiness and meaning at work so seek out opportunities to build positive relationships with colleagues, foster teamwork, and contribute to a supportive atmosphere.
The sixth step is to remember that every day is a school day, we are never too old to learn something new - the saying "you can't teach an old dog new tricks", is most certainly not true. Continuous learning as a powerful tool in helping you find meaning at work. Embrace opportunities for professional development, attend workshops, and stay updated with industry trends. Learning new skills and knowledge can lead to a sense of growth and accomplishment along with keeping your mind active.
The final stage which is for me one that I live and breathe every day, make sure you are celebrating achievements. celebrate those achievements regardless of the size of them, progress is progress and achievement are achievements, so make sure you shout from the roof tops. Acknowledge your progress and growth, and take pride in your accomplishments. Celebrating your successes and those of others you have led or mentored can boost motivation and reinforce a really sense of meaning in your work.
Finding true meaning and happiness at work is an ongoing journey, but it is a journey worth embarking upon. By aligning your career with your values and passions, setting meaningful goals, and embracing your strengths, you can create a path to professional fulfilment.
Remember that happiness at work is not just about the job itself but the deeper connection you build with your work and those you interact with every day.
Embrace growth, cultivate positivity, and celebrate your & others achievements to experience a truly meaningful and fulfilling career. With dedication and purpose, you can turn your job into a source of joy, purpose, and lasting happiness.
To recap it is not till you see the words written down and see evaluate yourself that you truly understand the meaning of those few words taught to me many many years ago. If you can be anything choose to
"Be Good, Be Nice & Be Kind"
