Finding Your ‘Thing’ - The 7 Ways to Add Value When Starting an Online Business
Jimmi Bradbury
You know those people who feel stuck in a 9-5, or a business they own trading their time for money? I help those people create a profitable online business sharing their knowledge & expertise to have more freedom in life
Starting an online business can be exciting, but I have found that there are two things that people struggle with when starting. They struggle finding their ‘thing’ and they have difficulty knowing the key ingredient that will make them stand out in a crowded digital world which is value.?
Knowing your ‘thing’ and how to provide value makes it easier to attract and retain an audience, build trust, and grow your business.?
Over the last 6 years of my own business and helping hundreds of people build their own digital businesses there are 7 important ways to find your ‘thing’ and add value when launching your online business.
So let's dive in……..
1. Leverage Your Strengths
The first step to finding your ‘thing’ and adding value is identifying what comes naturally to you.?
What tasks feel effortless when you're working on your business??
These are often your strengths and unique advantages.
For example I have a client who loves storytelling and it comes natural to her and she uses that skill to create engaging LinkedIn posts and youtube video content instead of just sharing generic business advice.?
Your ability to connect through stories helps her stand out.
2. Tap Into Your Passion
Passion fuels consistency, and consistency builds trust.?
A good question to ask yourself is: What do I love most about the work I do??
I always find that when you genuinely enjoy something, you’ll show up with good positive energy and this will make your audience more likely to engage with you.
For example: If you love helping people gain confidence in their personal brand, then perhaps you should focus on coaching, content, or courses that help them show up authentically online.
3. Create Effortless Content
Next look at the topics that feel easy for you to talk about or write about.
Those areas are likely where you can add the most value because they align with your strengths and interests.
Example: I like to break down complex topics into simple steps and easy-to-follow LinkedIn posts, courses, or tutorials to help your audience grasp difficult concepts faster.
4. Own Your Authority
One of the most common questions I get when people struggle to find their ‘thing’ is: ‘Why are you the right person to teach what you teach’??
I always say that there are 2 things that make us unique: -? Our life experiences and our perspective on how we see things.?
Your personal experiences, results, and insights make you uniquely qualified to serve your audience.?
People resonate with authenticity.
For example: If you've successfully grown a LinkedIn audience from scratch, you have first hand experience that makes you the perfect person to teach others how to do the same.
5. Recognize Your Value
I always say it is very important to pay attention to what people thank you for.?
When someone tells you, “That was so helpful!”, what exactly did you do to earn that response??
Identifying this will help you double down on the value you provide.
For example: If people often say, “Your content strategy framework changed the way I post!”, then your ability to simplify content creation is a major value you bring to your audience.

6. Solve Real Problems
Every successful business solves a problem.?
So think about what challenges do your audience face.??
Your business should be the solution to those struggles.
For example: A lot of my audience struggle with getting engagement on LinkedIn. So my LinkedIn Launch Academy online course provides actionable engagement strategies that help them gain more reach and visibility.?
In doing so my Linkedin Launch Academy online course is directly solving their pain points.
7. Deliver Results
Over the last 6 years of building my online business I have found that people don’t just want advice—they want results.?
So it is important to focus on creating real impact for your audience, whether it’s through coaching, products, or free content.
For example: If your coaching program helps someone go from 500 to 10,000 LinkedIn followers in six months, you’ve created a system that delivers measurable success.
In Summary?
Finding your ‘thing’ and adding value isn’t about being the loudest or most popular—it’s about showing up, solving problems, and making people’s lives better.?
Whether through your strengths, passion, or problem-solving abilities, every step you take to provide value will bring you closer to success.
If you’re starting an online business, focus on these 7 areas, and you’ll naturally attract an audience that trusts and supports you.
Which of these strategies resonates with you the most??
I would love to hear your comments and feedback!

The first step is always the hardest.
But once you start, momentum takes over.
