My Thoughts - What is your Learning Style?

Jay Makarov, the author

Each person has their unique learning style. They don't teach that in school. I spent many years before I realized that my learning style is structure, then action - a very academic style. First, I read the book; then, I practice the tips in the book. It gives me fast learning and a lot of positive emotions.

My best friend never reads a book. Despite this, he's a fantastic entrepreneur and salesman, a brilliant engineer, and even has a Ph.D. All in one! What is the secret to success? His learning style is action. Instead of studying theories, he immediately throws himself in the water and learns how to swim. He doesn't need structure, it comes as a bonus at the end.

There are at least 6 different styles of learning. For some, the core of development is feeling and intuition. To understand your style, just remember a situation where learning came out naturally, and there was a lot of energy in the beginning, middle and end. Don't feel guilty if someone gives you the advice to read a book, talk to a guru, or create a new habit if that doesn't suit you. You are unique, and using that uniqueness is your superpower.

If you want to figure out your learning style, let me know. I was thinking about creating and sharing a self-assessment based on one secret technique I know. I couldn't find it on the Internet, people say it was made for an inner circle by a very famous and smart person ;).

Trending News - People Leave Companies for a New Reason

People leave managers. Right? The data in a recent report by 麦肯锡 notes that we may need to rethink this commonly held belief. Christopher Lind's thoughts on the report caught our attention. The highest rated reason wasn't managers, but the lack of career development and advancement, followed closely by uninspiring leaders and lack of meaningful work. This data supports other recent data that employees' value proposition for joining a workplace has shifted. It is no longer primarily benefits and a paycheck, but a community of mentors and coaches for career growth. Click here to read the report.

Our Community - Highlighting the Power of Pause and Reflection

Mindy Honcoop - Renewed joy with Agile in HR

It is easy to get swept up into the flow of life with our heads down in the day-to-day that we can lose sight of our holistic goals, become disconnected from ourselves, and not realize how far off track we have gotten. Being laid off is difficult, but it may be the necessary pause needed to realign our path. This was true for our community highlight this week, Mindy Honcoop.

Mindy's role was made redundant a year ago. Instead of jumping into the next thing, she took the opportunity to take a step back to do a personal inventory, read, listen to podcasts, and lean into her network to become curious and ask questions. With the help of those in her community, she clarified her values, challenged her currently held beliefs, and found her actual superpowers and areas of opportunity.

For a year, Mindy invested in her healing and obtained an MBA, and continued to connect with others. Through her experiences and conversations, she realized a need in small to medium businesses for guiding founders and young HR leaders in rethinking how they work to create aligned, engaged, and healthy, productive workplace ecosystems.

One conversation led to another, and she realized a business was born, Agile in HR. As Mindy leans into starting her own business, she prioritizes pause, reflection, and she is planning to remain aligned to continue driving value and positive impact for those she works with.?In doing so, Mindy found her joy again.

We learn and are inspired by each other's achievements. Share your story or highlight someone else in the comments below.
