Scott T. Janney here, CEO/Co-Founder of CXperks . I’m a passionate entrepreneur with 20 years of experience spanning industries. Welcome to my newsletter!
In today’s newsletter, I’ll discuss the power of saying no and finding your super power. Then, I’ll share a tip and take.
Saying "No" is just as Powerful as saying "Yes"
In our professional lives, we are often put in situations where saying "yes" feels like the default response (regardless of our role in a company). Whether it's agreeing to an additional project, committing to a new partnership, or simply going along with what others are asking of us, we sometimes feel compelled to say "yes" — even when it might not be in our best interest. This is especially true for leaders, who are often expected to accommodate, support, and push initiatives forward at all costs. However, it’s important to recognize that saying "no" is just as powerful, and in many cases, more important than saying "yes."
I guarantee that if you would do research on the top 100 most successful women and men out in the world, they would likely tell you they had to say “no” to something even when it looked so good. When we say "yes," we are making a commitment — and that commitment comes with time, energy, resources, and focus. But saying "no" allows us to be intentional about where we allocate those resources, especially during critical moments. It gives us the space to say “yes” to the things that truly matter and align with our values, goals, team’s bandwidth, and vision.?
Saying “no” doesn't mean you’re closing doors permanently — it’s about making a conscious decision to protect your time, your energy, and your priorities. Sometimes, it means turning down a lucrative deal that doesn’t align with your core values, or resisting the urge to say "yes" to a project that you know will stretch your team too thin. It might even mean stepping back from a good opportunity because you know your company or team isn’t ready for it.
The power of "no" often comes in moments where it seems like the easier or more beneficial answer is “yes.” For example, as a leader, you may find yourself in a situation where a potential sale, project, or initiative could bring in immediate gains, but you instinctively know it's not the right fit or won't drive long-term success. Trusting that gut feeling and saying "no" — even when everything around you is urging you to say "yes" — is not only courageous but also strategic. “No” can be the answer that protects your bandwidth, your team’s well-being, and your organization’s culture. It’s about creating space for bigger, better, and more aligned opportunities to come through. When you're able to say "no," you are asserting control over your priorities, rather than letting external pressures dictate your decisions. It allows you to create a stronger foundation for growth, build trust with your team, and ensure that you’re always moving in the direction that will bring the most value — both to yourself and to those around you.
The next time you're faced with a tough decision, take a moment to reflect: Will saying "yes" help you or hurt you in the long run? And if the answer isn't clear, don’t be afraid to say “no.” Your future self will thank you.?
What’s Your Super Power?
I used to think that most business leaders’ superpowers come from their schooling or educational background. This might be true for some people, but I’m realizing more and more that this is not the case for all leaders. Super powers can also come from your character traits and personal skill set.
So, what’s my super power? It took me 41 years to realize my super power isn’t tied to education. ?? I dropped out of school in 10th grade and never looked back. Rather, it’s all about the spirit I was given.
I have two powers:
These powers have helped me be successful in my businesses. Funny thing is, I didn’t even realize these were super powers until I heard Ed Mylett talk about this. When someone worth north of $400M speaks, I listen! ??
My Monthly Tip
Surround yourself with people who inspire you to grow and level up in life! ?? You don’t need to agree on every single thing, but when you stay humble, set aside your pride, and truly listen to others, success will follow more often than not. ?? Building a strong network of great minds is the key to unlocking endless opportunities!?

My Monthly Take
A business owner’s journey is like a pro baseball player’s journey. I had this thought during the World Series. ?? Baseball players are so talented, they almost make the sport look slow. That’s a testament to years and years of practice, failure, hardships, growth, discipline… all things we can tie into business, as well.?
We experienced a World Series between two juggernauts - the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees . I was thinking about how as CXperks is becoming more and more ubiquitous, we’re starting to have more conversations with juggernauts - companies who bring in billions. That - to me - is awesome.?
Think about your favorite team and what got them to where they are today. Think about your business and what you’re going through, what you have been through. Celebrate the wins. Don’t focus on the losses, but learn from them. And you will be able to succeed just like some of these major league players/teams.
