Finding your Style in Notion

Finding your Style in Notion

Do you get bored or feel frustrated when note-taking apps don't allow you to customize your thoughts? Such as using pictures, fun widgets, or even adding your personal calendar. Well, Notion allows you to reflect on who YOU are and be as creative as you want! That's why Notion is pretty much used for everything in my day-to-day life.

I'll be making a Youtube video (link attached), on more of Notion soon, so don't miss it. Check out its exciting widgets you can add to your template below.

Today we are going to be learning how to find your style, by the following:?

Weather Widget

Notion allows you to embed all types of fun widgets onto your page, but you have to know where to go and what to do if you want to implement things like this. It's simple to add, and a great widget to have. Follow the steps below.

  • Navigate to Weatherwidget.io
  • Under the following tabs enter based on your preferences
  • Support: Location| Langauge | Units
  • Options: Font | Icon Set |Forecast
  • Themes: Pick the color theme, plenty of designs & options included!
  • Customize: Add different backgrounds & colors of the clouds or sun
  • Click 'Get Code' then 'Copy to Clipboard'
  • Navigate to Apption.co and click (You have to register for an account)
  • Select, 'DIY Embedded URL' & Enter a name and HTML Code
  • Copy the Code and Navigate back to 'Notion'
  • Click the '+' and scroll down until you find 'Embedded'
  • Enter the 'Embedded Code' and the images below will appear!

You can size the wideget to your liking! See below.

Mini Calendar Widget

On my Agenda page, I like having a calendar widget because it helps visualize where in the month we are, and it's also very simple to add!

  • Navigate to https://indify.coYou can add a bunch of other widgets but...
  • Under 'Explore Widgets' select 'Google Calendar'. You'll be asked to link your G-Mail.
  • Edit the color, text, and color mode.
  • Copy the link at the bottom and then paste your URL into the 'Embedded' section mentioned above.

Below you will find the widgets you can create and embed into your notion template, along with an example of my personal calendar

Template Button

Now I want to show you how to create templates that are convenient for you. In my agenda, I created this new week template button, so I can enter what needs to be completed this week, archive the previous week, and keep it going. The goal is to save time on previously repetitive tasks.

  1. Type '/Tempalte' and you'll see 'Advanced Blocks' appear. Click it.
  2. Answer: What should this button be called?
  3. Answer: What should appear when you add this new section. I added a new page for each day of the week, see below.

How to Create & Use an Archive

Notion has an archive feature, simply navigate to | New Page |Templates|' Personal' | Weekly Agenda | Select Archive. See below.

I took the idea from here, but in order to create an 'Archive' you do the following:

  1. Create a New Page & Set the page Icon to perhaps a Folder ??
  2. Go back to your 'Weekly Page' and go to last week's page, turn the header into a 'Toggle', drag everything into the toggle and drag the toggle into the archive. Now you can see all of your previous weeks, and by having the toggle you can access the selected week by a drop-down function-otherwise it would make a really long page, so let's make sure it's short and simple to access.
  3. Check out my example below

Create Templates Databases

When creating templates, Notion offers a lot of different formats you can choose from, check it out below. Make sure to play around with the different kinds. In this example, we are going to use the 'Table Database' to showcase my Youtube Content Creation Table.

Here you can see that each video Topic Idea has a page leading to a new template page, but this way I can view all my videos in one database, and it will be easy to access moving forward.?

Two Ways to Access Templates

The two best ways to access tablets are directly from the app or Notion's main webpage. Here we will just talk about Notions pre-designed templates within the app. You can find options by simply navigating to the left sidebar and finding the 'Templates' bar ( as shown below).

Or after clicking 'Templates' as noted above, you will see the below page. Here you can click ' Browse more templates' and will be navigated to Notions Web page. You'll have soooo many options to choose from!

Really appreciate these Notion posts. We have Notion at Kicksaw and I was a little frustrated with it at first having come from Evernote, JIRA, etc. but these tips are helping me to understand how I can leverage it better.

Ooh I love organization! Definitely gonna check it out. <3

I just got into Notion and was looking for some guidance on how I might use all the features. This is just what I needed, thank you!
