Finding Your Purpose & Passion

Finding Your Purpose & Passion

As I sipped on my slightly burnt coffee this morning at 5:45 AM I was reminded of the long list of “to do’s” I had in store. Waking up early always seems easier when it’s - insert excuse - but it’s true there are multiple reasons why some days just feel easier regardless of the cause and that impacts your day.

Finding the inner will to be excited when you wake up and energetic to start your day doesn’t necessarily happen in the morning but more so when you live life with purpose. Think for a minute about anyone in your life you secretly admire, that person you watch on social media, or listen to on a podcast who seems like they really figured it out, now ask yourself why? Why does it seem like their coffee is just a little less burnt than yours in the morning and their excuses a little less loud in their mind?

I ask you to do this not to make you feel bad, just to get you wondering as I did what is that magic sauce they have, you see I went a step further into that question and asked a few of those people what it was that separated them.

Obviously most at first shrug off any differentiation but I did notice all chats I engaged in ended with the person’s purpose and passion. They followed this beat to their drum that not even a fire truck bazing by could mute or stop- in fact they were that fire truck speeding on the streets pushing all other cars away fueled to accomplish every task like a life hung on the line, while the fire was ablaze inside them.

I understand this seems unrealistic to have every person gassed up on passion and purpose in life when a ghastly 85% of the population reported they were unhappy with their work worldwide according to a Poll taken by Gallup.

I took my second sip of that coffee and paused- if majority of people are truly feeling this way then I know a large group of people must be faking their positive outlook to some degree and wondering when jobs were created in modern society were they even made with any consideration to motivate or engage people to feel fulfilled? I threw my hands up as if surrendering to the fact that the more you dig the farther down you realize a hole can go.

Irregardless if I were to take a stab at it I’d say no- jobs are created out of need and necessity, in an almost robotic fashion and we are left to feel a void missing of this purpose, passion magic sauce. Add in a pressure to always be busy and ambitious or accomplished and you’re left with a second feeling in which you should be able to also robotically type in these special keys then boom you’re dialing the 1800- You’re Fixed hotline… but what if, *and yes please follow me there for any of those that might not have seen how phones worked before* we were more like those old phone wires that you had to dial in to the operator and ask to be connected to another person.

What if purpose and passion simply were wired to talk to different things in your life and instead trying to fix this void robotically you asked your inner operator if there were a way to wire some communication between work, waking up early, or any monotonous task you dread to one of those deep meanings you have that keep you going? Sometimes it’s difficult to do things when we don’t look at the full effect they have on our already very purposeful passions we hold in our life, such as a dependant dog in our lap who needs food and care, or a friend that you enjoy having dinner with and all the luxuries you’re allocated simply by getting up and drinking that dang burnt coffee that now tastes so ever sweet.

Now my sirens may not be gleaming and cars running out of my way today but I do believe most days they are in full steam and the fire is burning deeply for me but when I get those occasional off days I go back to that inner operator and see what wires may need a little rerouting, and I hope this helps you too if you ever needed a little pep in your step.
