Finding Your Path After College: An Inside Look at CA’s Early Career Programs
Author: Kat Mitchell
Figuring out what you want to do after graduation can be quite a puzzle. I knew three things when I graduated: ?
What I didn’t know was where those things would lead me. Instead of having it all figured out, I kept those three things as my north star while I began my job search. Through a friend, I heard about Curriculum Associates, and during my research, I noticed they had quite a few entry-level positions that would allow me to explore the company and my own interests. Even better, the well-established EdTech organization would fuel my passion for education while teaching me new skills in business and technology.?
In June 2021, I joined CA as an EdTech Fellow. This six-month rotational program is designed for anyone curious about Curriculum Associates and EdTech. During those first few months, something magical happened. I fell in love with Curriculum Associates and the amazing people who make it what it is. I also forged friendships with fellow early career professionals from another program: the Management Development Program (MDP).?
The MDP is a three-year rotational program that gathers a small cohort of early careerists who become your mentors and friends. It's competitive, it's rewarding, and it challenges you to juggle your current team's responsibilities, MDP duties, and side projects. Plus, you get the incredible opportunity to work alongside senior leadership and executives from all over the company, including CEO Rob Waldron . ?
Being part of the MDP allowed me to explore a wide array of career paths, leadership styles, and team dynamics. I can confidently say that the experience I've gained in my first two years at Curriculum Associates is simply unlike the other early career programs I reviewed. ?
The MDP is what you make of it. When you join a team as a Management Development Associate, you're not confined to a specific set of duties. Instead, you hop from project to project, lending a helping hand wherever it's needed.?
And let me tell you, saying "yes" to as many opportunities as possible is a game-changer. It opens doors, broadens your knowledge of the business, and builds strong relationships with your coworkers. These connections often lead to even more exciting projects that take you in entirely new directions!?
So, my advice to early career professionals considering joining us at Curriculum Associates is this: embrace the unknown, step outside your comfort zone, and take on projects that challenge you. Trust me; it's worth it. The personal and professional growth you'll experience is absolutely priceless.?
