Q2 is here and I can't really believe how fast it feels like the year is already flying by. Soon spring will be in full swing, then summer is right around the corner...
It's amazing every time I look at my to do list to cross one thing off it seems like I'm adding another 5.
Whether your are in an office balancing back to back meetings or at home juggling Zoom calls and laundry, productivity tips can come in handy.
When there is so much to do and never enough time, wellness can often be an afterthought or a "something to get to eventually".
Wellness also isn't the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of productivity but they have more to do with one another than you would think.
In fact, prioritizing your wellness is integral to maintaining peak productivity.
It's nothing new to the ultra successful.
Oprah Winfrey speaks to the benefits of meditation and mindfulness practices for reducing stress keeping her at her optimal. She even collaborated with Deepak Chopra on content for the Chopra App, a meditation app.
Arianna Huffington, after suffering from severe exhaustion, is a vocal advocate for getting enough sleep and disconnecting to recharge mentally and physically.
Richard Branson emphasizes the importance of healthy eating and staying physically fit to sustain high energy levels.
Sheryl Sandberg incorporates gratitude exercises into her daily routine to maintain a positive mindset and resilience.
Just to name a few.
When you prioritize wellness you experience heightened levels of productivity making it my number one productivity tip.
The symbiotic relationship between the two stems from the fact that a healthy mind and body are better equipped to handle the demands of work and life.
Plus who doesn't love feeling like they had a productive day and got a lot done.
These feelings of accomplishment and reducing stress and contribute to overall wellbeing.
This dynamic is the concept of a "flow", a state of optimal performance involving deep concentration, heightened focus and engaging with the tasks on our to do lists with ease.
When we are experiencing flow we are productive and finding it fulfilling and gaining enjoyment out of these tasks.
When we can harness the power of flow we can achieve elevated performance levels and maintain a sense of wellbeing.
So let's dive into a few ways in which we can put this into action.
Time Management
Most of us who feel like there aren't enough hours in the day typically have a time management problem or a prioritization problem
The Pomodoro Technique is a popular option that involves breaking work into intervals of about 25 minutes each and separating them by short breaks.
This technique is great for those who struggle with maintaining focus and concentration or those prone to procrastination and easily distracted.
Time blocking is another great technique. You schedule blocks of time out for different tasks or activities throughout the day.
This provides a clear structure to organize your day and helps you to prioritize and allocate time effectively.
It also encourages working more mindfully and helps to foster a sense of discipline.
Stress Management
Time management will absolutely help in this category but a few other ways to reduce and manage stress are:

Meditation- when we meditate we are able to clear out the clutter in our minds and let it freely wander a bit, allowing our minds and bodies to feel a sense of deep relaxation.
Deep breathing - These techniques, especially box breathing, have been used by those in high stress professions for many years. Navy seals, police officers and nurses are known to use these techniques to quickly bounce back from "fight or flight" into clear thinking.
Setting Boundaries - Setting a realistic work load for yourself and letting others know when you're at full capacity is step one but also creating boundaries for yourself between work and personal will also do wonders.
Nutrition
Fueling your body and mind gives us the energy and nutrients we need for optimal cognitive function and productivity.
Poor nutrition can lead to fatigue, brain fog, and decreased concentration, hindering productivity and performance.
A well-balanced diet supplies the brain with essential nutrients, supporting focus, memory, and mental clarity.
When we prioritize nutritious food choices, we can enhance our overall wellbeing and unlock our full potential for productivity and success.
Cultivating Work-Life Balance
Finally, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, as they say.
Even if our work is what makes our hearts sing, its important to step away and enjoy other aspects of life.
Finding that sweet spot between our professional responsibilities and our personal lives is what will lead to us being more interesting but also happier and fulfilled.
Taking care of ourselves isn't selfish. Its actually selfless! By filling up your own cup you have more to give to others.
This is all to say that your wellness/ wellbeing is the foundation for your productivity.
Being unwell, tired, over stressed, unhappy and unfulfilled will lead to low output and productivity.
Without prioritizing your wellness and wellbeing, you're essentially building on shaky ground.
Neglecting your physical, mental, and emotional health not only decreases your ability to perform at your best but also undermines the sustainability of your achievements.
And remember to listen to yourself. You are defined by your accomplishments but by your character.
So, invest in your wellness, nurture your wellbeing, and watch as your productivity soars. After all, a healthy mind and body are the foundations of true success.
