Here are some tips to help keep your body active and allow you to maintain a healthy diet and still reach your fitness goals while working full-time. It can be difficult but when you find the right balance, routine, and workouts that suit you, you will be able to reach your fitness goals while forwarding your career.?

Our Key takeaways to improve your work-life balance

Try to incorporate some exercise into your journey to work

Listen to your body - take a break when your body needs it

Prepare your lunch in advance

Try and throw in some home workouts

Join a gym with flexible opening hours

Make an exercise class part of your routine

Incorporate Fitness into Your Journey to Work

One way to make time in your busy life for exercise may be exercising to and from work. Many working people choose to either jog or cycle to work. If you can get into a routine of exercising on the way to work, you are incorporating fitness into your day straight away. Walking or cycling will also allow you to beat the traffic and helps the environment.??

This is an easy way to factor exercise into your working week. Even if you cycle or jog to work once or twice a week you are making a massive difference to your health.?

Take Breaks when your Body Needs it

After a long nine-hour shift at work often all we want to do is eat and sleep. You need to listen to your body and if you feel tired you should always take a step back and rest. Take things slow and you will see massive changes. If you feeling tired from work, find lower-intensity exercises to keep your body and mind active.?

For example, why not start small and have a short walk on your lunch break? Incorporate fitness into your routine when you can but remember not to burn yourself out.?

Meal Prep for your Lunch

When you’re at work and your feeling super hungry, you just want any convenient food and it can be easy to just venture to the next-door takeaway for your lunch. However, if you are serious about improving your fitness and achieving that work and fitness balance, it is important to eat a healthy and nutritious diet even at work.?

The food you put into your body is just as if not more important as exercise. Meal prepping your lunches with tasty food at the start of the week will help you keep a balanced healthy diet while also filling you up during a long shift. I love making a healthy stir fry dish to take in for my dinner, it fills me up and gives me the energy to work to the best of my ability.?

Home Workouts can be flexible

Depending on your preference it may be useful for you to develop a home-workout routine instead of going to the gym. The beauty of home workouts is you can do them whenever suits you! This works well around people who work on set days as you can put a schedule in place.?

For example, I enjoy doing a different home workout every night after work at around 8 pm. It suits me as it tires me out allowing me to get a good night’s sleep.?If you don’t have the equipment, you can always try some calisthenics at home.

There are so many places you can find home workouts including fitness apps. Using a fitness app can be helpful as the app can give you the exact routine for your fitness goals and also reminds you when you need to exercise giving you the boost of motivation you need after a long working day.?

Join a 24-Hour Gym

For those who prefer gyms instead of home workouts, consider a 24-hour gym. This means whenever you have a spare hour you can go and exercise. The gym works around your shift times rather than you are working around opening times.?

This makes it more convenient for you to go before work or after work. If I feel like a gym workout I prefer to go to the gym and get my hour of exercise in as soon as I wake up. I find the gym is often quieter and it puts me in a good mood for the day.?

Exercising as soon as you get up when you feel most motivated is also effective as you have the most energy after a good night’s sleep. It also eliminates the possibility of you skipping exercise later in the day so you don’t need to ask yourself, should I go to the gym later??

Join an Exercise Class

Again, depending on your working pattern, an exercise class every other night after work can keep you in a great fitness routine. I find classes much more motivating than exercising by myself as you can socialize, and everyone is focusing on the same goal. Yoga in particular is a great group exercise activity that is beneficial for your mental health, as well as your physical health.

If you already have a sporting hobby, this is a great way to get fit while having fun! Instead of exercise being a chore, see it as a chance to be with your friends!

I hope you have found these tips useful. If you have an intense full-time job do not let it hinder your fitness goals or health. Maintaining healthy eating and regular exercise will not only make you feel good about yourself; it will also improve your mood and work performance.?
