Passion and Time.
These are two things that everyone values, but depending on whom you talk to, the value of both increases or decreases. These are topics that continuously come up in my office chats. So I'm bringing it to you all too!
Q: Should I value my time more than my passions?
Both are equally important and today I'm going to talk about why the value should remain high for both.
Growing up my dad never wanted me to work. He'd say, "Hey, you have your whole life to work, be a kid." But lil old me never could sit still. Of course, I worked. I worked in high school, I worked in college, I worked during summers, and guess what I'm still doing...working. My reason for working was to find my passion. I wanted to know what I liked and didn't like as early as possible.
So when my mentees come to me stressed that they can't find an internship or a job, I say to them, "Relax. You'll be fine, and you will find a job. You have so much time!"
Worrying doesn't do much but waste time. Instead, you should always use the time that you do have to figure out what you're passionate about, and what you like to do. The truth is, you can never cheat time, but you can use it wisely. The quicker you find what you like, the less time you'll waste doing things that you hate.
Figuring out what you like to do, is the hard part. And once you realize that you can't gain back your time is another hard pill to swallow.
So, I'm going to help you save a little time! Pull out a sheet of paper, and answer the question below. Don't worry, it's a quick one!
THE QUESTION
If you didn't have to work and you had all the time in the world, what would you be doing?
SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER
We don't live in a fairytale, so of course, I know the importance of work. I'm just asking you to also consider your passions, and to make sure you find just a smidgen of joy as time passes. Like my dad said, work is work, and you have your whole life to work!
Stay with me.
