Finding Time - A Cabin in the Woods
As I am writing this in the first days of the New Year 2023 – I had to laugh about the entry in Ryan Holiday’s The Daily Stoic for January - Clarify your Intentions.
He talks about making sure our efforts mean something - and that we are not wasting our days. We must have an end in mind to avoid “the oblivion of directionlessness.”
I have been obsessed with all things time management/productivity for over 25 years (half of my life – you can do the math…). I decided to practice what I preach and make an investment in myself and my practice. I booked a writing/reflection retreat in the beautiful cottage country located 3 hours north of Toronto.
Literally – a cabin in the woods.
No meetings. No email. Limited screens. Lots of (paper) books – some read, some unread.
I reviewed some of the books I read in 2022. All with one common theme – TIME.
·?????The Twelve Monotasks – Thatcher Wine
·?????Laziness Does Not Exist – Devon Price
·?????Free to Focus – Michael Hyatt
·?????Four Thousand Weeks – Oliver Burkeman
The one book that really resonated with me was Four Thousand Weeks – a strong title (and an even stronger message).
“Assuming you live to be eighty, you’ll have had about four thousand weeks.”

WOW…a vital reminder for all of us. Shouldn’t we (as leaders, as humans) be ruthless with our time?
Meetings. Emails. “The Oblivion of Directionlessness.”
We can, we must, do better.
With my cabin in the woods, I created fortified boundaries around my time. I was able to take the time (as all leaders should) to pause, reflect, and plan. I found a clear signal and blocked out the noise.
Leaders (and humans) need time…we all want to use our 4000 weeks well.
How fortified are your boundaries?
Do you know your direction, your true North?
How can you find a clear signal and block out the noise?
If you and your teams need support in being ruthless with their time, blocking out the noise, and creating fortified boundaries, let’s connect.
Find time,
Craig
