Finding Steady Ground When Life Throws a Storm

Finding Steady Ground When Life Throws a Storm

This past week has been incredibly tough for those affected by the hurricane that tore through Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas. Our heart is with everyone who’s facing loss, damage, or uncertainty. It’s a time that makes us realize how unpredictable life can be and how important it is to come together.

I’ve heard stories of people being completely cut off—roads washed away, leaving communities without food, water, or other supplies. Many haven’t been able to reach loved ones due to phone, internet, and Wi-Fi outages. Some of the worst destruction happened in unexpected areas, like mountain communities that never thought they’d be in a hurricane’s path. Homes destroyed, communities overwhelmed.

If you’re navigating this aftermath or know someone who is, here are a few thoughts that might help:

1. Take It One Step at a Time

With so much happening at once, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed. The best thing you can do is focus on what’s right in front of you—whether it’s contacting loved ones, finding shelter, or simply making a plan for the next few hours. Take small steps, and don’t try to tackle everything at once.

2. Connect & Help However You Can

For those who are able to connect, whether by phone, text, or in person, don’t hesitate to reach out to friends, neighbors, and local groups for support. And if you’re in a position to help, even the smallest act—donating to relief funds, sharing resources, offering a place to stay—can make a huge difference in someone’s life.

3. Stay Informed & Help Others Get Information

Access to reliable information can be a challenge right now, especially without Wi-Fi or phone service. If you’re able to stay connected online, consider sharing local updates, shelter information, or community resources that others may not be able to access. And if you’re in touch with those on the ground, pass along important news that might help them find the support they need. Even being that bridge for a small bit of info can go a long way.

4. Take Care of Yourself, Too

It’s easy to forget about self-care when so much is going on, but even small actions matter. Take deep breaths, find a moment to rest, and connect with others who are supportive. Mental health can take a big hit during times of crisis, and finding ways to ground yourself is important.

5. Lean on the Power of Community

We’re all in this together. Check on your neighbors, stay connected to family and friends when you can, and know that you’re not alone. A simple “I’m thinking of you” can go a long way to remind someone they are supported.

To everyone impacted by this storm, please know that we’re thinking of you, sending strength, and hoping for safety and recovery. And to those looking to help, your compassion and support make a difference. It’s in times like these that we see the best of humanity.

Let’s keep moving forward—together. ??

Storms come in many shapes. You don’t have to feel a drop of rain or a gust of wind to be swept away into a feeling of navigating disaster. Even so, the same principles apply. Don’t wait. Don’t ask The request won’t arrive. Just do what you think will help.
