Finding Solace In Activity, But Don't Miss The Tranquility Along The Journey

Finding Solace In Activity, But Don't Miss The Tranquility Along The Journey

We've all heard it, "Get up and get moving!" But why? Why would we or why should w "get moving"? Does that help in some way? Are there any tangible benefits to movement? If so, why should I care?

Harvard University has conducted many studies on the benefits of exercise, including its impact on mental and physical health, and its role in longevity in the following categories:

  • Mental health
  • Physical health
  • Other benefits

It is amazing what 30 minutes of exercise (like a walk) can do for your mental and physical health. Read much more from the Harvard study .

The Ruck

Obviously, there are numerous studies on the benefits of exercise for mental and physical health, and I am not here to delve into another research analysis - there are plenty of those out there. Today, I want to share how my 4-mile ruck (walk with weight) this morning positively impacted me.

Too often, we find ourselves rushing through life, constantly moving from one task to the next. I challenge you to take a moment to truly appreciate the activity you are engaged in.

I immersed myself in a favorite podcast and set out for my "MOTOday ruck" adventure. The change from pavement to a gravel road brought me to my senses and I pulled out my air-pods...ah, a silence....a sense of tranquility, allowing me to appreciate the nature surrounding me. Encountering deer, a bunny, and other wildlife instantly centered me, reminding me of the importance of slowing down and embracing the present moment.

By the end of my ruck, I felt more at peace, burned around 800 calories, and strengthened both my physical and mental stamina. This experience boosted my confidence and set a positive tone for the day ahead and I am confident it would do the same for you too!

Life often becomes about consuming the latest leadership content or always being on the move to find the next big thing, especially if you are in a leadership or managerial role. Today, I encourage you to unplug, get moving, and take a moment to appreciate the beauty of simply being alive. Embracing nature can significantly enhance your overall well-being and perspective on life, and a little sweating never hurt anyone. Remember, we are all part of a larger puzzle, each with a unique purpose, so try your best to not lose your way, along the way...

Take the time to step into nature, boost your mental and physical strength, and appreciate the interconnectedness.
