Finding the silver lining when things go wrong...
Have you ever had an event happen and you allow it to ruin your day? Do you find yourself thinking -?'it always happens to me'?
Thinking that way cannot help a situation or your emotional state, nor does it help you turn things around.?
I have learned to find the silver linings when things go wrong, and it’s become a habit for me.?It’s called “reappraisal”.?
Reappraisal is an?emotion regulation strategy?that can be used to reinterpret a sad or bad situation in a more positive (or less negative) way.?
Reappraisal is not easy for many of us, and if we have a hard time seeing silver linings, this can contribute to higher levels of negativity such as anger, sadness, and depression.
I’ve had to use reappraisal often during the pandemic as I had opened a new business,?Muttz with Mannerz?, a Canine Academy?in January of 2020.?
We were impacted at first, so when Covid-19 hit I had to find those silver linings.?
For example, I became grateful that we were able to have more time to finish some of the construction that was not done. And also my coaching was able to continue without interruptions.??
After a short time, I realized that we were going to grow quickly, and the business was going to thrive as it seemed everyone was getting new dogs that needed our services. I also had some well-needed time off during the lockdown and was able to clean up some administration that had piled up with both of my businesses.
As you can see there were many silver linings I was able to find.
