Finding the Right Words to Use
As the coronavirus continues to disrupt our lives, there is a growing need for behavioral health providers to help us cope. Many of us are adjusting to working from home as we care for members of our families.
We are helping our kids with distance learning. We are reassuring loved ones whom we cannot visit face to face. We are grieving the loss of activities in our lives that have given us comfort and stability. We are grieving the loss of loved ones.
This need for behavioral health providers will not go away anytime soon. Even after the economy starts opening back up in areas, the traumas of the pandemic will have rooted themselves into our psyche.
Historically, there has been an enormous stigma around receiving behavioral health services. We cannot afford to let this stigma exacerbate the impact of the pandemic. We need behavioral health providers to help us find the right tools and the right words to use.
CHC’s Chief Behavioral Health Officer, Tim Kearney, has been addressing behavioral health issues related to the pandemic on many fronts. I encourage you to listen to his wise words in the link below. I also want to thank all of our behavioral health staff who have done so much to help the people of Connecticut during these challenging times.
